The Cognitive Science Society brings together researchers from around the world who hold a common goal: understanding the nature of the human mind. The mission of the Society is to promote Cognitive Science as a discipline, and to foster scientific interchange among researchers in various areas of study, including Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Anthropology, Psychology, Neuroscience, Philosophy, and Education. The Society is a non-profit professional organization and its activities include sponsoring an annual conference and publishing the journals Cognitive Science and TopiCS.

American Psychological Association

The American Psychological Association is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States, with more than 122,500 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students as its members.

American Psychological Association Division 7: Developmental Psychology

Division 7 was organized to (a) promote research in the field of developmental psychology; (b) facilitate the exchange of information about developmental psychology through the Division Newsletter, website, and APA Convention program; (c) enhance undergraduate and graduate education in developmental psychology, for example, through DOTDEP (Directors of Training in Developmental Psychology) and early career development (through grants and a communication network); (d) present awards to both new and established researchers for their outstanding contributions to developmental psychology; and (e) promote the use of scientific knowledge in both applied settings and public policy decisions relevant to the optimal development of infants, children and adults.

Artificial Intelligence in Education

AIED is an interdisciplinary community at the frontiers of the fields of computer science, education and psychology. It promotes rigorous research and development of interactive and adaptive learning environments for learners of all ages, across all domains. The society brings together a community of members in the field through the organization of Conferences, a Journal, and other activities of interest.

American Educational Research Association

The American Educational Research Association (AERA), a national research society, strives to advance knowledge about education, to encourage scholarly inquiry related to education, and to promote the use of research to improve education and serve the public good.

American Psychological Association Division 15: Educational Psychology

The purposes of this organization shall be to expand psychological knowledge and theory relevant to education, to extend the application of psychological knowledge and services to all aspects of education, to develop professional opportunities in educational psychology, to further the development of psychological theory through the study of educational processes, and to promote cooperation and joint action with others having similar or related purposes.

International Cognitive Linguistics Association

The International Cognitive Linguistics Association (ICLA) fosters and promotes research within the perspective of cognitive-functional linguistics, which subsumes different theoretical approaches that share the common idea that language is an integral part of cognition which reflects the interaction of cultural, psychological, communicative, and functional considerations.

Association for Computational Linguistics

The Association for Computational Linguistics is the international scientific and professional society for people working on problems involving natural language and computation.

Special Interest Group on Discourse and Dialogue

SIGdial aims to encourage researchers and educators to: promote development and distribution of reusable discourse processing components; explore techniques for evaluation of dialogue systems; share resources and data among the international community; encourage empirical methods in research; agree upon standards for discourse transcription, segmentation, and annotation; promote collaboration among developers of various dialogue system components; support student participation in the discourse and dialogue community.

Special Interest Group on Natural Language Generation

SIGGEN is a special interest group of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL). It provides a forum for the discussion, dissemination and archiving of research topics and results in the field of text generation.

Artificial Intelligence and Interactive Digital Entertainment

AIIDE is intended to be the definitive point of interaction between entertainment software developers interested in AI and academic and industrial AI researchers. Sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), the conference is targeted at both the research and commercial communities, promoting AI research and practice in the context of interactive digital entertainment systems with an emphasis on commercial computer and video games.

American Psychological Association Division 46: Media Psychology

Division 46 was founded in the 1980s to bring scholars, researchers, practitioners, and clinicians together to understand the implications of the increasing integration of technology across society.

American Psychological Association Division 10: Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts

The Society for the Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts is committed to interdisciplinary scholarship, both theoretical and empirical, encompassing the visual arts, poetry, literature, music and dance. Broadly conceived, we study three interrelated topics: creativity (including developmental, motivational, affective and cognitive processes), the arts (including aesthetic content, form and function) and audience response to the arts (including preferences and judgments). To this end, we apply personality, clinical, cognitive, perceptual, cultural and postmodern psychologies to diverse artists, styles, and epochs.

International Society for the Study of Narrative

The International Society for the Study of Narrative (ISSN) is a nonprofit association of scholars dedicated to the investigation of narrative, its elements, techniques, and forms; its relations to other modes of discourse; its power and influence in cultures past and present.

Intelligent Narrative Technologies

The Intelligent Narrative Technologies (INT) workshop series aims to advance research in artificial intelligence for the computational understanding and expression of narrative. Previous meetings of this workshop have brought together computer scientists, psychologists, narrative theorists, media theorists, artists, writers, and members of the interactive entertainment industry. From this broad expertise, the workshop focuses on computational systems to represent, reason about, create, adapt, and perform interactive and non-interactive narrative experiences.

Computational Models of Narrative

Narratives are ubiquitous in human experience. We use them to communicate, convince, explain, and entertain. As far as we know, every society in the world has narratives, which suggests they are rooted in our psychology and serve an important cognitive function. It is becoming increasingly clear that, to truly understand and explain human intelligence, beliefs, and behaviors, we will have to understand why and to what extent narrative is universal and explain (or explain away) the function it serves. The aim of this workshop series is to address key questions that advance our understanding of narrative and our ability to model it computationally.

Association for Computational Creativity

The International Association for Computational Creativity (ACC) is a non-profit organisation, whose mission is the advancement of Computational Creativity as a discipline and a technology. A key responsibility of the ACC is the management of the annual International Conference on Computational Creativity (ICCC).

International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling

The International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling (ICAPS) is the premier forum for researchers and practitioners in planning and scheduling – two technologies that are critical to manufacturing, space systems, software engineering, robotics, education, and entertainment. The ICAPS conference resulted from merging two bi-annual conferences, namely the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Planning and Scheduling (AIPS) and the European Conference on Planning (ECP).

Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing

Artificial Intelligence and Law

Artificial Intelligence and Law (AI and Law) is a subfield of Artificial Intelligence (AI) mainly concerned with applications of AI to legal informatics problems and original research on those problems. It is also concerned to contribute in the other direction: to export tools and techniques developed in the context of legal problems to AI in general. For example, theories of legal decision making, especially models of argumentation, have contributed to knowledge representation and reasoning; models of social organization based on norms have contributed to multi-agent systems; reasoning with legal cases has contributed to case-based reasoning; and the need to store and retrieve large amounts of textual data has resulted in contributions to conceptual information retrieval and intelligent databases.
